Her first roles on television included two episodes in the role of Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) on the ABC sitcom Roseanne as the character played by her mother. Her parents did not allow her to perform in front of her family until adulthood, as they feared the strain it might cause. Perry claims she never wanted to perform in highschool but decided to start playing as a way to make friends while at Northwestern University when she switched to the university from Boston University. Perry managed to get small TV roles in Law & Order: Criminal Intent following her graduation. Homesickness, however, led her back to California again where she began working in the stage. Perry's mother and I appeared on Broadway with her in The Other Place, in 2013. In the year 2015, she was together with Kevin McKidd alongside her mother in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prizewinning Drama Anna Christie. The same year the actress was selected to play a young model of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) in Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again as a teen model of the mother's role. The character was picked through an audition, even though she had a close association with it.
